How Much Does Drug and Alcohol Detox Cost?
One of the most pressing concerns for anybody contemplating drug or alcohol detox is the financial commitment required. Sadly, the high price tag associated with drug and alcohol rehab programs is a significant deterrent for many individuals.
Estimating the expense of rehabilitation stems from the various factors at play. Furthermore, the location of the center and the amenities the program may provide above the bare minimum may significantly impact the cost of drug and alcohol detox.
What Determines the Expense of Detox for Alcohol and Drug Addiction?
Rehab expenditures are affected by several variables. Among the most important ones are the following:
Type of Treatment Plan
There are two main types of treatment centers: residential and outpatient. Since you will be living at the facility and receiving all of your care there, it stands to reason that inpatient or residential programs would be more expensive. Because of the nature of your stay, the facility must maintain a constant staffing level during your treatment.
Medical treatment is another essential component of residential programs, and this implies the presence of a doctor and nurse either on-site or nearby. Contrarily, outpatient services are often available only during regular office hours.
Location of the Center
Another thing that might affect how much you have to pay to be treated is where that facility is located. A center situated on a remote hillside or by the sea would charge more for its amenities than one in the middle of the city.
It is reasonable to expect that a rehab center in a luxurious, purpose-built facility would charge more than one situated in a converted home or workplace.

Duration of Treatment
Upon entering alcohol or drug detox, a patient will undergo an initial examination, after which a therapist will suggest a treatment duration that will give the patient the most chance of success.
Your time in therapy is entirely up to you, barring legal mandates. So, for example, the examiner could advise you to enter a three-month therapy program, but ultimately it is up to you to determine how long you have to stay.
Some people need a brief detox treatment accompanied by observation and medication for withdrawal symptoms. Detoxification programs range in length from as little as 3 to 5 days to as much as ten days or even 14 days.
The therapist might suggest that you maintain professional help for 28 days, 90 days, or more based on your assessment results and insurance plan. For example, rehabilitation for heroin addiction typically involves 12 months or more of participation in an outpatient methadone or suboxone plan.
Inevitably, the expense of therapy will increase the time you are a patient of the program. However, a shorter detox program of two weeks will be far more affordable than a more extended 28-day stay at a rehabilitation center.

Services and Benefits Provided
Those with the financial means to do so may obtain the medical care they need and a wide range of personalized services in luxurious settings, including all the comforts one would associate with a five-star hotel or club.
Patients at high-end facilities may receive individualized care from professional chefs, fitness instructors, and medical staff. In addition, they get access to beauticians and personal assistants. Besides providing transportation service to and from the location, some establishments have private exercise areas equipped with steam rooms and showers.
Some posh establishments welcome wealthy guests with their kids and even cater to them with various fun events. Some rehabilitation centers even offer pet therapy, cleaning, and treatments to clients who bring their dogs to the program.
Regular Treatment Plans
Most inpatient alcohol and drug detox centers in the United States provide minimal patient comfort. They only offer the essentials, including a bed, toilet, TV, and closet space. However, if you are willing to share a room, it might be a cost-effective option at certain facilities.
Those in need of treatment programs who do not want upscale accommodations may expect to pay approximately $5,700 per month in a facility managed by a nonprofit organization. The estimated price of a private facility is $17,400 per year and includes access to a few conveniences.
Expensive Treatment Plans
If you have the necessary funds, you may go to a center that offers every possible amenity and service for the wealthy. Costs for therapy might range from $26,000 to $100,000 per month.
How To Pay For Detox: What Are The Options
1. Self-pay
This is when the individual pays for the detox out of their pocket. The advantage of this is that there are usually little to no waiting lists for services, and you can start your detox as soon as you’re ready. The downside is that it can be costly and may not be an option for everyone.
2. Insurance
You can use your coverage to help pay for detox if you have health insurance. However, checking with your provider beforehand is essential to see what is covered and what your out-of-pocket costs may be. In addition, some insurance companies will only cover certain types of detox programs, so it’s essential to do your research beforehand.
-
PPO
A Preferred Provider Organization is a type of health insurance allowing you to see any provider participating in the PPO network. Your insurance company will likely have a list of participating providers you can choose from. However, you may have to pay a higher deductible or copayment if you see an out-of-network provider.
-
HMO
A Health Maintenance Organization is a type of health insurance requiring you to see providers in the HMO network. If you see a provider is not in the network, you may have to pay the total cost of the services yourself.
3. Medicaid
Medicaid is a government-funded health insurance program that covers low-income individuals and families. If you qualify for Medicaid, you may be able to use your coverage to help pay for detox. However, each state has different eligibility requirements, so you must check with your state’s Medicaid office to see if you qualify.
4. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) is a federal agency that provides funding for substance abuse and mental health treatment. If you can’t afford to pay for detox, you may be able to get help through a SAMHSA-funded program or grant.
